What is this test?

This blood test quantitatively measures IgG antibodies to a defined SARS-CoV-2 target. It measures an immune response and is not a viral test for current COVID-19.

Why might it be ordered?

  • In selected clinical or epidemiological situations where information about an antibody response is needed.
  • When the exact assay target may help distinguish findings after previous infection or vaccination.
  • Not to diagnose current infection or independently assess protection or the need for vaccination.

What sample is needed?

A blood specimen is used. Confirm which viral target the assay measures, such as spike or nucleocapsid, because this matters after vaccination.

How should you prepare?

Special dietary preparation is usually unnecessary. Report vaccination dates, previous positive viral tests, symptoms, and possible exposure.

How should you understand the result?

The report gives a numerical IgG value in the units and ranges of the specific method. Values from different assays are not automatically comparable and do not represent an established personal-protection threshold.
