What does this test include?
The panel measures IgG antibodies to 44 food antigens. These antibodies commonly develop through normal exposure to and tolerance of food.
Why might it be ordered?
- For an informed conversation with a specialist about what the test measures and what it cannot detect.
- For referral to established symptom assessment if true allergy, celiac disease or other disease is suspected.
What sample is needed?
A healthcare professional collects a venous blood sample. Depending on the method, the laboratory uses serum or plasma.
How should you prepare?
Do not change your diet before or after the test without individual medical advice. Tell the laboratory about all medicines, hormone treatments, vitamins and supplements you take. Do not stop or change treatment unless your clinician tells you to. Follow any instructions about fasting and the time of collection.
How are the results reported?
Detected food IgG or IgG4 antibodies usually indicate exposure to that food and may occur with normal tolerance. They do not prove food allergy, intolerance or the cause of non-specific symptoms.
